ISSN 0001-5555 Acute generalized exanthematous pustulosis (AGEP) is a disease characterized by the rapid onset of numerous small, non-follicular, sterile pustules on an erythematous base associated with oedema, which usually begins in intertriginous areas (1). Fever over 38oC and peripheral blood leukocytosis are often present in these patients. AGEP is usually attributed to systemic drugs, mainly antibiotics. Sidoroff et al. (2) proposed a validation score based on morphological and histological criteria as well as on the disease course. Etodolac, a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) with potent cyclo-oxygenase type 2 (COX-2) inhibition, is widely used in the treatment of patients with osteoarthritis due to a more favourable therapeutic index compared with other NSAIDs. We report here a case of AGEP caused by etodolac in a 70-year-old Japanese man, which was confirmed by the lymphocyte transformation test (LTT) in vitro. Although there have been previous reports of AGEP induced by selective COX-2 inhibitors (3–7), to the best of our knowledge, this is the first case of AGEP caused by etodolac.

Childhood acute generalized exanthematous pustulosis induced by oral ketoconazole.

Acute generalized exanthematous pustulosis is a rare disorder characterized by an acute onset of generalized, nonfollicular, pustular eruption associated with fever. It is usually drug-induced and is uncommon in children. We report a 12-year-old girl with acute generalized exanthematous pustulosis induced by oral ketoconazole. To our knowledge, in spite of its relatively frequent use, acute gen...

Acute generalized exanthematous pustulosis due to tetrazepam.

Tetrazepam is a benzodiazepine that is widely used in Spain as a muscle relaxant, with occasional cutaneous side effects. We report a patient who developed a generalized pruriginous cutaneous reaction compatible with acute generalized exanthematous pustulosis (AGEP) due to tetrazepam. Patch tests with bromazepam, diazepam, and tetrazepam were negative at 48 and 72 hours; however, the tetrazepam...

Acute Generalized Exanthematous Pustulosis Due to Oral Use of Blue Dyes

Acute generalized exanthematous pustulosis is a rare severe pustular cutaneous adverse reaction characterized by a rapid clinical course with typical histological findings. It is accompanied by fever and acute eruption of non-follicular pustules overlying erythrodermic skin. The causative agents are most frequently antibacterial drugs. We present a patient with acute generalized exanthematous p...

Acute Generalized Exanthematous Pustulosis (AGEP) due to dapsone in a patient with leprosy.

Acute Generalized Exanthematous Pustulosis (AGEP) is a dermatosis characterised by an acute episode of appearance of sub-corneal sterile pustules over erythematous-edematous skin. AGEP is often associated with systemic symptoms such as high grade fever and is usually considered to be an adverse drug reaction, although a viral etiology is sometimes implicated. Here we report a case of AGEP follo...

Successful Treatment of Hydroxychloroquine-Induced Recalcitrant Acute Generalized Exanthematous Pustulosis with Cyclosporine: Case Report and Literature Review

Acute generalized exanthematous pustulosis (AGEP) is a cutaneous reaction principally induced by drugs. Spontaneous resolution is observed in most patients. However, severe cases required systemic corticosteroid administration. Hydroxychloroquine, which is used to treat some dermatologic and rheumatologic diseases because of its anti-inflammatory and immunosuppressive effects, is an uncommon ca...
